The Volunteer Process

Thank you for volunteering in our library!  We wouldn't be able to do what we do without YOU!

Please be sure your clearances are up to date.  Clearances are required when volunteering in the library.

Here is a link to find information about how to get that process started.

When you are ready to sign up, click on the volunteer Sign Up Genius for you child's grade level to select a date to come in to read to the class during book exchange. Be sure to click on the correct tab for your child's class at the top of the page.

Helpful Hint: it is easier to see the tabs when opening the Sign Up Genius on a tablet or computer, rather than on a mobile phone.

If you have to cancel for any reason, please go back into the Sign Up Genius to cancel from there.  That way the slot is open for other parents to fill.  We cannot cancel it from our end.

If you have difficulties with the sign up, please contact concordhsa@gmail.com

What to Expect

No need to be nervous - the kids love having their grown-ups come in to read to the class!  They will be thrilled that you are here!

No need to bring your own book.  We have pre-selected titles from our collection that are directly connected to the curriculum or are seasonally appropriate.  You will choose titles that interest you from those pre-selected books in the grade level bin.

When you come in, you will select books to read to the class.  Guest readers will read for approximately 15 minutes; usually this is enough time for two books.

After reading, the class will be given browsing sticks and will be dismissed from the carpet to choose books.  You can help the children look for books and monitor the stations.

Other Volunteer Options

If you don't feel comfortable reading aloud, you can help with other things, just let us know.  â€‹

A few things you can do include:

  • helping students locate a book using their browsing sticks

  • helping students search for a book on Destiny (our online catalog)

  • monitoring students at the stations, and providing assistance as needed

  • being an extra set of hands, eyes, and ears

Thank you for volunteering in our library!

Library Information

Welcome to the Concord Elementary School Library!

In the library, students are expected to be kind, safe, and respectful.

The library is the heart of our school—a place where

everyone feels included and welcome!

Below is an outline of our library expectations

and procedures for students and families.

Book Checkout Schedule

  • Kindergarten – check out begins the second week of school (1 book at a time).

  • 1st Grade – check out begins the first week of school (1 book at a time).

  • 2nd Grade – check out begins the first week of school (2 books at a time).

Due Dates & Renewals

  • Books are due back at the student’s next library class.

  • If a student isn’t finished, they may renew the book for another week.

  • Students must return their previous book(s) before checking out new ones.

  • Helpful tip: Choose a “parking spot” at home where library books always go!

Forgotten or Overdue Books

  • If students forget their book, they may not check out another until it’s returned.

  • They may still browse and read during library.

  • Students may place a book on hold to check out once their current book is returned.

  • Books can also be exchanged in the morning before school.

Lost or Damaged Books

  • Students are expected to pay the replacement cost of lost or damaged books.

  • Replacement costs usually average $15–$20 since we purchase durable, library-bound editions.  You may pay in cash or by check made out to Concord Elementary School.

  • Most book damage happens when water bottles leak inside backpacks. Please keep library books in a separate pocket or bag to help protect them.

  • CES policy: All library books must be returned or paid for before the end of the school year.
